Rep. Dan Moul announced on Apr. 7 that the Adams County Library System will receive a $750,000 Keystone Grant to build a new Gettysburg Library in Cumberland Township, located off Route 116 West behind the Lutheran Seminary and Gettysburg YMCA.
The grant is part of more than $11 million in Keystone Grants distributed statewide by the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Office of Commonwealth Libraries to support improvements at public libraries. A total of 27 libraries across Pennsylvania are receiving funds aimed at addressing modern technology needs, accessibility, energy efficiency, non-routine maintenance, expansion, and new construction.
According to Moul, the current Gettysburg Library at 140 Baltimore St., which also houses administrative offices for all six public libraries in Adams County, has outgrown its space. The grant funding will be used to design and develop a modern library facility that will serve multiple purposes and replace the existing location.
“I was happy to support this grant, which will bring a bigger, better library to our area,” said Dan Moul. “Public libraries are essential to the growth and development of our communities, particularly here in historic Adams County. They are a great resource for encouraging children to read and helping us all to better understand the world and our place in it.”
With this funding secured for a new building project, local officials expect that residents will benefit from improved access to resources as well as updated facilities designed for community needs.
