Nearly $110,000 in grants has been awarded to fire and emergency medical services organizations in the district, according to Rep. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin). The funding comes from the Office of the State Fire Commissioner’s Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program.

“Each day, our brave fire and EMS personnel answer the call, at all hours, to help those in need,” Reichard said. “We owe them thanks and support so they have the training and equipment they need to help us in our times of need.”

The grant recipients include Mercersburg Montgomery Peters and Warren EMS ($8,740), Mercersburg Montgomery Peters and Warren Fire ($15,312), Mont Alto Ambulance Association ($15,000), Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Co. ($14,899), Rescue Hose Company No. 1 of Greencastle ($12,014), South Mountain Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Fire ($13,663), Waynesboro Ambulance Squad Inc. ($15,000), and Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department ($26,487).

The money is sourced from slot machine gaming proceeds rather than General Fund tax revenue. Grants may be used for facility construction or renovation, equipment purchase or repair, training programs, recruitment and retention efforts, public education on fire prevention topics, or debt reduction.
