Senator Doug Mastriano will host a Working Animal Appreciation Day on June 10 in Harrisburg. The event will begin with a news conference at 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Soldiers Grove at the Capitol Complex.
Mastriano, who chairs the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, collaborates with Senate colleagues and the Pennsylvania State Working Animal Foundation to honor police and military K-9 units, search and rescue dogs and horses, service dogs, and therapy animals.
Joining Mastriano will be Terri Heck from Summit Search and Rescue, Jen Snyder along with Dingo from PA Canine Search and Rescue, and Shelby Wietrzykowski accompanied by Ruby from the PA Department of Agriculture.
The event includes a special appearance by K-9 Detective Briggs. This dog has worked with various agencies such as the Pennsylvania Game Commission, local police departments, U.S. Marshal Service, Secret Service, and FBI. Briggs is recognized for aiding in capturing arsonists and armed robbery suspects.
Working animal exhibitors from organizations across Pennsylvania will be present from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., showcasing the significant roles these animals play.
The PA Dairyman’s Association Milkshake on the Moove Truck will offer milkshakes for $6 during the event. Proceeds will support agricultural scholarships, youth programs, and educational initiatives throughout Pennsylvania.
The public can watch live coverage on Mastriano’s website as well as his social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and X. The event is open to everyone.
