Rep. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin) expressed concerns over the recent approval of a $50.61 billion state budget by House Democrats, describing it as the largest spending plan in Pennsylvania’s history. Reichard criticized the budget for lacking a financial sheet to demonstrate its full impact on Pennsylvanians.
“This budget proposal does not include a financial sheet to show representatives the entire impact on Pennsylvanians,” said Reichard. “Without the details necessary to make an informed decision, we cannot vote yes today.”
Reichard warned that the proposal would perpetuate a significant deficit, depleting surplus funds and burdening future generations with consequences. He described the government’s growth as unsustainable and advocated for an alternative plan proposed by House Republicans.
“Rather than investing in new programs that will only require more funding year after year, House Republicans put forward a responsible alternative – aimed at strengthening our economy and creating opportunities for all residents to succeed,” he stated.
Reichard expressed disappointment over the dismissal of their plan and emphasized returning money to taxpayers as a means to grow the economy. “The best way to grow the economy is to return money to taxpayers and empower them to spend it as they see fit.”
He also voiced concerns about potential future tax hikes and long-term fiscal instability resulting from this budget but remained hopeful that Republican colleagues in the Senate would advance a budget prioritizing taxpayers and economic growth.
