Reps. Torren Ecker and Rich Irvin have announced that the Cumberland-Franklin Joint Municipal Authority has secured funding for the upgrade of its wastewater management system. The authority has been awarded $423,700 through the Commonwealth Financing Authority's Small Water and Sewer Program.

Ecker emphasized the importance of infrastructure improvement for economic development, stating, "Infrastructure improvement is a key ingredient for economic development and this funding will provide assistance with completing a much-needed sewer improvement project."

The funding will be utilized to upgrade four pumping stations and install three flow meters in the authority's wastewater treatment collection system. This system is located in Shippensburg Township, Franklin County, and Shippensburg Borough, Cumberland and Franklin counties.

Irvin expressed his support for the project, stating, "This is a vital project that will greatly improve sewer infrastructure in the Shippensburg area. I was pleased to advocate for the funding along with Rep. Ecker. This is the type of project the SWS program was designed to fund."

The Small Water and Sewer Program provides grants for small water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure projects. Municipalities and municipal authorities that own and maintain a public water supply, sanitary sewer, or stormwater system are eligible to apply for this program.

This funding announcement is a significant step towards improving the wastewater management system in the Cumberland-Franklin Joint Municipal Authority. The upgraded pumping stations and flow meters will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the wastewater treatment collection system.

The representatives' efforts to secure this funding highlight their commitment to addressing crucial infrastructure needs in their respective districts. The project aligns with the goals of the SWS Program, which aims to support the improvement of water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure across Pennsylvania.

With these upgrades, the Shippensburg area can look forward to a more robust and reliable sewer infrastructure. This will not only benefit the local community but also contribute to the overall economic development of the region.
