Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33) has announced the allocation of nearly $1.7 million in state grants for water and sewer infrastructure projects in Franklin and Adams counties. The grants, funded by the federal COVID-19 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), will be disbursed through the H20 PA Program and the PA Small Water and Sewer (SWS) Program.
"These water infrastructure grants ensure residents have access to clean drinking water and proper wastewater management," said Mastriano. "The provision of clean water and effective wastewater treatment is a fundamental responsibility of local governments."
The grants, awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), will support various projects aimed at improving water and sewer systems in the 33rd District. The H2O PA Program, established in 2008, provides grants for the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer projects, as well as flood control projects and the repair of high-hazard unsafe dams.
Municipalities and municipal authorities that own and maintain public water supply, sanitary sewer, or storm water systems are eligible to apply for grants through the SWS Program. Projects must exceed a total cost of $30,000 to be considered for funding.
The CFA, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, was created in 2004 to administer the state's economic stimulus packages. Through these grants, the CFA aims to support the development and maintenance of vital infrastructure across the Commonwealth.
Investing in water and sewer infrastructure is crucial for public health and the well-being of communities. These funds will enable local governments in Franklin and Adams counties to upgrade their systems, ensuring clean drinking water and efficient wastewater management for their residents.
The announcement of these grants highlights the commitment of Sen. Doug Mastriano to improving the infrastructure in the 33rd District. By securing funding through the federal ARPA, Mastriano has demonstrated his dedication to addressing the essential needs of his constituency.
