Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33) expressed his concerns about Governor Josh Shapiro's budget proposal in a statement following Shapiro's annual budget address to the state House and Senate. Mastriano highlighted the potential consequences of deficit spending, including future tax increases or cuts in programs for senior citizens, military veterans, and children.

Mastriano criticized the governor's focus on allocating more funds to underperforming public schools instead of prioritizing enhanced school choice programs. He argued that simply injecting more money into failing programs does not create solutions but rather leads to more expensive problems.

One of Mastriano's main objections was the governor's plan to increase state funding for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) at the expense of taxpayers across Pennsylvania. He voiced his opposition to sending more tax dollars to subsidize a public transit system that he described as "crime-ridden" and "incompetently run" in Philadelphia.

Drawing comparisons to the excessive government spending in California and New York, Mastriano warned that the governor's budget proposal could lead Pennsylvania down a path of financial collapse and economic ruin. He cautioned against the dangers of socialist government spending schemes, stating, "at some point you eventually run out of other people's money." Mastriano argued that the governor's budget would spend taxpayers' money faster than they could earn it.

Mastriano's concerns about the budget proposal align with his stance on fiscal responsibility and limited government intervention.
