HARRISBURG - Franklin County lawmakers, Reps. Rob Kauffman, Rich Irvin, and Paul Schemel, expressed their appreciation for the $4.2 million in Broadband Infrastructure Program grant funding awarded to the county. The legislators emphasized the importance of the funding in enhancing broadband services for underserved areas.

"This funding is essential to improving broadband service for residents and businesses in underserved areas of the county," the lawmakers collectively stated. They highlighted the significance of reliable internet access in various aspects of daily life, such as shopping, education, business transactions, and healthcare appointments.

The $4.2 million grant for Franklin County, awarded to Zito West Holding, LLC, is part of a larger $204.1 million allocation for 53 projects approved by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority. The funding, sourced from the American Rescue Plan Act, is designated for the installation and acquisition of high-speed broadband infrastructure, including data-gathering, feasibility studies, community engagement, and administrative costs.

The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority, established under Act 96 of 2021, serves as a central hub for initiatives aimed at expanding the state's broadband infrastructure and services.

The lawmakers' proactive stance and support for improved broadband access in Franklin County underscore their commitment to enhancing connectivity and technological advancement in the region.
