FOIA Request to Franklin County Regarding Access to Public Records on October 7, 2024.
In our continuous efforts at South Central PA News to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have sent a request for public records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., to Franklin County.
The request, sent on October 7, 2024, specifically asked for a list of FOIA logs that were sent to the county from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024. The requested fields in these logs include: the requester's name and organization; the content of the request; the date of the request and its completion; and the status of the FOIA.
As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us at South Central PA News. It allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await response from Franklin County regarding this request.
