Rep. Rob Kauffman of Franklin County is set to host the AARP Smart Driver Course for older drivers residing in the 89th District. This area includes Greene, Guilford, and Hamilton townships, as well as Chambersburg Borough.

“This is a great course that provides older motorists with tips and techniques to help them become more confident and safer drivers,” stated Kauffman. “We are offering both a refresher class, as well as the full two-day course for those interested.”

The AARP Smart Driver Course aims to educate participants on current road rules, defensive driving strategies, and safe vehicle operation in today's challenging driving conditions.

Classes will be conducted from 8 a.m. to noon at Menno Haven Life Center located at 300 Ridgeview in Chambersburg. The schedule is as follows:

- April 11: Refresher class for those who attended in 2022. Recommended every three years.

- May 22 and 23: Attendance required on both days.

- Aug. 7 and 8: Attendance required on both days.

There are no exams involved. The course fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members, payable by check or money order. Space is limited; registration can be done by calling Kauffman’s district office at 717-264-3943.

Completion of the course may make participants eligible for Pennsylvania's multi-year auto insurance discount for insured drivers aged 55 and older (participants should consult their insurance agent for details).
