To tackle the issue of fraud against the elderly, Representative Torren Ecker of Abbottstown has arranged a Senior Fraud Prevention Seminar in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office. Scheduled for February 7 at 10 a.m., the free event will take place at the Nicarry Meetinghouse of Cross Keys Village, New Oxford.
Rep. Ecker highlighted the threat posed to seniors by fraudulent schemes, stating: “Everyday scammers actively target older residents in fraud schemes. These are heinous crimes perpetrated by people who are, sadly, difficult to catch.” He emphasized the importance of understanding and preventing fraud: “One of the best ways to address fraud is to help residents understand what it is and how not to become a fraud victim.”
A representative from the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office will be on-site to educate attendees about various types of fraud and provide guidance on how to avoid falling victim. The event is open to senior citizens, their families, and caregivers, with no prior registration required.
Representative Torren Ecker serves the 193rd Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
