State Senator Doug Mastriano | Pennsylvania
Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33) has raised concerns about the potential implications of a new RNA-based vaccine developed by Merck Animal Health, known as "Sequivity," entering the pork supply chain. Mastriano highlighted the significance of this development in the pork industry, stating, "Injection of gene therapy into the food supply would result in Pennsylvanians unknowingly and unwillingly consuming gene-altering mRNA technology."
In response to these concerns, Mastriano took action by introducing Senate Bill 883, which aims to prohibit the integration of gene therapy products into any part of the food supply in Pennsylvania. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that such technologies are not incorporated into the food chain, stating, "This is why I introduced Senate Bill 883 to clearly state that gene therapy products are banned from being integrated into any part of the food supply in the commonwealth."
The availability of the Sequivity vaccine in the commercial market has sparked debates surrounding the use of mRNA technology in food production. Mastriano's proactive approach to addressing these concerns reflects his commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the food supply chain in Pennsylvania.
