The state Senate has approved legislation introduced by Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33) to establish the PA VETConnect program in law, aimed at assisting Pennsylvania veterans in accessing programs, services, and benefits within their communities.
"Our military veterans earned access to certain benefits and programs through their service to our nation," Mastriano stated. "This program connects veterans with the resources available in their communities and across the commonwealth. It’s important for us to protect this program by having it codified in Pennsylvania law."
Senate Bill 447 seeks to formally establish the PA VETConnect program, which is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The initiative aids over 700,000 veterans across the state by providing a database of resources that local veteran advocates, including staff at county veterans affairs offices, can use to direct veterans to pertinent information, resources, programs, and services both locally and statewide.
Mastriano's remarks during the Senate's consideration of the bill are available for viewing online. The bill had previously been approved by the House of Representatives and now awaits the governor's signature to become law.
