State Senator Doug Mastriano | Pennsylvania
State Senator Doug Mastriano | Pennsylvania
Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33), chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, will host an event on Wednesday, February 7th, at 10 a.m. in the Rotunda of the state Capitol in Harrisburg. The purpose of this event is to honor Pennsylvania military veterans who participated in Operation Desert Storm.
Operation Desert Storm, which began on January 17, 1991, was launched by the United States and its allies in response to the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq under former dictator Saddam Hussein. The campaign lasted approximately 100 hours and resulted in the liberation of Kuwait.
As a combat veteran who participated in Operation Desert Storm, Sen. Mastriano understands the significance of this event. His regiment led the attack against the elite Iraqi Republican Guard. He wishes to honor the military veterans who fought bravely to liberate the people of Kuwait from the oppressive Iraqi regime.
The ceremony will feature several notable individuals, including Brig. Gen. Laura McHugh, Deputy Adjutant General-Army, and other state lawmakers who are also military veterans, such as Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) and Sen. Greg Rothman (R-34). The colors will be presented by members of American Legion Post 272 in Linglestown. The keynote address will be given by Col. James White, a retired Army chaplain.
Those who are unable to attend the event in person can watch it live on Senator Mastriano's website at SenatorMastriano.com.
