A transportation project in Antrim Township, Franklin County, is set to receive $2.37 million in state funds, as announced by state Senator Judy Ward and state Representative Paul Schemel. The funding comes from the state's Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant program and is aimed at improving access to Interstate 81, Mason Dixon Road, and Greenmount Road.

The grant recipient, 2017 Greenmount Road, LLC, will use the funds for transportation improvements that are expected to facilitate economic development and address existing infrastructure issues. Senator Ward highlighted the project's potential impact on local employment and quality of life. "These much-needed infrastructure improvement projects will benefit the region through improved access to Interstate 81 for employers and the creation of more than 280 family-sustaining jobs," she stated.

Representative Schemel emphasized the area's growth potential and the importance of traffic flow improvements. "This area of Antrim Township has in recent years been a very desirable place to develop commercial and industrial projects,” he said. “Improving the flow of traffic around this interchange is important not only for the commercial vehicles but also for the residents of Franklin and Washington counties who are trying to commute or access stores and services.”

PennDOT evaluates grant applications based on criteria including safety benefits, regional economic conditions, technical feasibility, job creation potential, energy efficiency, and sustainability. The next round of applications for Multimodal grants will open in September 2021.
