Senator Doug Mastriano has announced the allocation of over $704,000 in state grants for road and bridge improvements within the 33rd District. The funding, provided through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), will support projects in Metal Township and Washington Township.
Metal Township is set to receive $350,000 to rehabilitate Creek Road. This road has suffered from poor stormwater drainage and flooding, leading to unsafe conditions due to loose gravel patches. The rehabilitation will include a full roadway reclamation with a two-inch leveling course and overlay using Portland Cement. Problematic culverts along this section will also be replaced.
Mastriano commented on the situation: "Metal Township is a very small community with limited resources. Given the township’s grim financial situation, it would take more than a decade to complete this project." He expressed satisfaction that taxpayer dollars are being effectively utilized for this purpose.
Washington Township will benefit from $354,232 in funding to replace Amsterdam Road Bridge, which has been closed since 2018 due to structural failures. The bridge is crucial for local transportation, helping residents access commercial areas while reducing congestion on Route 16. The current detour poses safety risks and increases emergency response times.
The CFA awarded these grants through its Multimodal Transportation Fund, aimed at ensuring safe and reliable transportation systems for Pennsylvania residents.
